Supporting Vocations in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee
Vocations grow where prayer, encouragement, and community support are strong. The Serra Club of Milwaukee exists to nurture that environment, working closely with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and Saint Francis de Sales Seminary to help young people hear and respond to God’s call. Through daily prayer, personal outreach, and a joyful witness to the value of priesthood, members help build a culture where vocations can take root.
Serra Clubs worldwide share this mission, but in Milwaukee it takes on a uniquely local character. Members accompany seminarians studying right here in the Archdiocese, reminding them that they are surrounded by people who believe in them and pray for their perseverance. Events such as the Padre Serra Basketball Tournament and altar server awards introduce youth to seminarians and priests in positive, approachable settings, planting seeds that may grow into a call later in life.
Serrans support vocations through three commitments: prayer, which anchors the mission; presence, which offers encouragement and connection; and partnership, which strengthens the seminary and Archdiocese through practical support. Their efforts help ensure that future generations will have priests to celebrate the sacraments, preach the Gospel, and shepherd the faithful.
Adam Widder’s story traces an unexpected call to the priesthood that first surfaced in college, faded as he pursued career and family life, then returned with clarity during a period of soul‑searching in the Smoky Mountains. His journey highlights the courage it takes to enter seminary without absolute certainty, trusting that discernment unfolds over time. Today he studies at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary, grounded in prayer, service, and a desire to follow where God leads.
